10/06/2011 3D Design/Exhibition Set-up

For the past week we have been setting-up the
exhibition.

Problems & Solutions:

P: Drilling the holes into the base (for the fairy lights)
with the electric hand drill was taking to long. And, was
also taken by others who needed it so I couldn't finish
it off
S: Used the hand drill, which was much quicker and
succssesful.

P: The model had gotten a little dirty over the past
coulpe of week.
S: So it had to be repainted.

P: The masking tape on my model, which was put on
so that the aluminium pieces don't get scratched, etc,
didn't come off. The glue had melted over the time and
was really sticky.

S: First I used water, wet the masking tape, and tried to
take it off, but only a little came off.
S2: I used spirit, which took off the masking tape with
a little bit off ease. I left some on before I went to
lunch. When I came back it was even easier to take off
the masking tape, except in some areas where there
wasn't a lot of spirit.

I finally set everything up by the end.

The only thing I have left is to stick up my design
sheets and Graham said I could put them up on
Monday morning before they start marking.

I have finished all my work, and I need to also hand
it in on Monday because I didn't leave it there on
Friday as I had to edit my evaluation.

I gave my presentation and got some feedback
for what I need to make sure I have done for the
final assessment on the 13th June. I had missed
some points out in my presentation so Kate told
me to make sure they're included in my sketchbook.

I need to use this feedback as a checklist to see
all is done.

In the afternoon I continued with completing my
model.
I continued with cutting of the remaining unwanted
parts and started filing down the sharpe ends.

I made sure everything that need to be stuck down
was done, and that the few bits that would be stuck
down after most the exhibition was stuck up were in
the right places.

Using a spot welder I welded the pieces together making
sure that the pieces are joined in the correct places by
using a template.
It was difficult to hold the pieces and press the spot
welder at the same time, as the pieces kept moving out of
place, so I asked Zulfikar to help me and he pressed down
the spot welder.
Once that was done, I started to cut out the access pieces.
At time it got a little difficult to cut some pieces because
the positions, but by keeping the saw in a differet angle I
slowly managed to cut off the unwanted pieces.

3D Design 19/05/2011

For the window design I wanted to use cooper
wire. Matt told me that I could also use metal
rod, which is a little thick. But to use this I
had to make my designダウン much simpler.

After choosing the lines I will keep, I started
to cut out each piece. The pieces were cut slightly
longer so that they can be spot welded in the correct
places.

I drilled the holes into the aluminium pieces so that
I could attach them to the MDF pieces.
Just before I was about to attach the parts together,
I released I hadn't painted the base or re-coated the
MDF pieces, so I did that.
After the paint dried I attached the aluminium and MDF
piece together with pop-rivets using the pop-rivet gun.
This took a while to do as it was a little hard. Because
my hand & arm started to hurt again, Kate helped me to
attach the pieces.
I softly hammerd down the pieces so that they would
properly sit in place.

Continuing with making my model, I drilled 11
holes into each MDF piece so that I can screw
the brackets into place.
Once the brackets were attached I glued the
MDF pieces into place, using PVA wood glue
and woodblocks to support.
I then hand bent the alaminium piece over a
rounded surface. I didn't use the roller because
when I tested it earlier on in the project, it left
marks and dents.
This prosess worked well and the pieces sat on
top of the model fine.

During Visual Studies lesson I carried on with making
my model. I drilled the remaining pieces for the brackets
and filed down the rough parts. I finally then bent them
using the metal bender.
I made another set of brackets for the second MDF piece.

I started to paint my model with spray paint. I had to do
this outside, but because it was a little windy my pieces
kept getting a little dirty. I will have to re-paint them once
the spray piant has dried.

I stayed behind after college and made a small model
to test my new design using foam board. It seems that
it will work out well.

I developed my design further in CAD programme SketchUp
so I can visualise what it will look like.
