Fashion & Textiles 08/11/2010

In yesterdays textiles lesson, I caught up
with my work from last week. I was missing
images from my research, so I stuck that in
my sketch book.ニコニコ

Afterwards I had a talk with Louise and decided
on what to do to move forward in my work. We
decided that it would be best, if I chose to do
a jacket in the end, to only do the seleve part. I
was thinking I would also like to include part of
the collar.ニコニコ

After the talk, using the template Louise had
given, I cut out my own, and then used the
template to cut out the seleve material using
fabric (don't remeber the name, lolにひひ).

Visual Communication 04/11/2010

Today, we had our first Visual Communication
lesson (also known as Graphics Design). We
were given our brief. The theme is the same as
the other subjects, ‘Contrasts’. We were given
a brief and some other information.ニコニコ

At first I didn’t know what I wanted to do, so I
looked through some of the information Claire
(lecturer) gave us. I definitely knew I was going
to do something related to architecture. I decided
to do CD covers/inlays. I then thought about
what I could compare to architecture, and with the
help of Zulfikar, I decided to look at ‘old/new’ in
the contrast theme. I decided to that the band
members should be dressed in 18th Century or
Victorian clothing, and this will go against the
modern architecture.ニコニコ
I researched some 21st Century architects and
chose the following as I liked their designs:
1) Ricardo Alvarez-Diaz (Alvarez-Diaz+Group)
2) Atusushi Kitagawara (Atusushi Kitagawara
Architects)
3) Asymplote Architecture
By the way, for the Victorian costumes, I will try to
contact the REP theatre and ask if they have any
and if I can use them in my project. I’ll get my
friends to help me and we’ll all dress up. Ravika and
Zulfikar are definitely helping me, and I’ll see who
else is willing to. I really do hope REP will let us use
the costumes. *Fingers crossed*ニコニコ

Before I started to make a sample of my idea, Claire
told us to do a little task. We were asked to pick out
a card which had a contrast written on it and draw i
deas that come to our mind. I got the card which said
‘Alive/Dead’.
I decided to carry on using the idea of CD cover
layout. My design was a half a face and half a skull
joint together making one whole face.

After lunch everyone presented their ideas to each
other.
Once we were back on the Macs I started to make a
sample of my idea using Photoshop and some images.
Images I used were of the night sky, buildings by the
architects I researched, and images of one of my
favourite bands, DELUHI.ニコニコ

I like how it’s turned out.ニコニコ I want to use this as the
cover, so, I think I should swap the sides over as it’ll
be easier to print off.
It’s very rough so it’s not really that good.

Photography 02/11/2010

We had our first photography lesson. カメラI was so
excited to start this subject as I really love
photography. Our lecturer for the subject is
Catharine. It seems like she’s American. She
seems very cool and friendly.ニコニコ

So our lesson started at 6pm. Me and Ravika
bought ourselves a latte to keep us awake as
we were very tired. Actually after we started
the lesson, I didn’t feel tired anymore.ニコニコ
In the lesson we learnt the basics of photography.
Well, we looked at how the camera works, etc.
Catharine showed us some old film SLR cameras.
They were so cool. I love old cameras.カメラ ラブラブThey
were very heavy. With these cameras we can
actually see how the aperture and shutter speed
works to take a perfect photo.
Aperture: known as f-stop. The amount of light
coming through the lens to make your exposure.
Light changes based on the aperture selected.
Shutter speed: How fast the camera takes the
picture. How long the lens/camera is exposed to
light.

After looking at how the camera works, Catharine
gave us D-SLR cameras to work with. We learnt
the basics of using this type of camera. Obviously
we had selected manual, so we have full control
of the camera and what we take.

Me and Ravika shared a camera, as Ravika’s
was given to someone else’s who’s didn’t work
properly. We took many photos. We were looking
at time and motion, etc. Here are some of
mine:

Here we were helping each other take the photos.
We tried lettering and creating other shapes with
light. I used my iPod and Zulfikar used his iPhone...ニコニコ

We realised after a while that the background was
to bright because of the lights on the building, so
we changed locations.

What a great lesson. I actually don't mind this
lesson being at 6-9pm, because it’s fun and
interesting.

Visual Studies 02/11/2010

In todays lesson we started to work at a
bigger scale than before. To create our
darwings we used brown chalk (French),
white & black chalk, and we worked on
the reverse side of parcel paper.

The object we drew was made buy ourselves.
Using white card, we folded it in different
places so that we can make a complex design.

It's still incomplete, so we're going to work
on our drawings in the next lesson.
I need to finish of the bottom part and also
work on the tonal range. I need to expand it.
