3D Design 17/01/2011

Date/Time: 18/01, 10:33

In the lesson I continued with my sketch book
work and research.ニコニコ

I had another "one to one" with Kate and told
her what I had done so far. She really liked
the idea of me using long exposure photography,
light painting, to create ideas for a piece of
architecture. ニコニコ
She showed me some of her work which she
had done at university. It also included light
painting. It was really cool.ニコニコ

In my own time I will finish off the research and
update my sketch book.
Hopefully on Thurday's lesson I will start
experimenting with light.

3D Design 13/01/2011

Date/Time: 14/01, 23:18

In the lesson I continued to do some research and
also worked on my sketch book.

I also had a talk with Matt about what I am doing.
He told me about some artists who use refelection
in their artwork and also told me to look at some
architecture within Birmingham.
I researched more into the artists he told me about.

Well...seems like I need to continue with my research and
sketchbook and then start experimenting.

3D Design 10/01/2011

Date/Time: 10/01, 23:57

Today was our first lesson back to college and also
our first lesson of the Pathway Stage. In this stage
we are to start working on our own and make our own
lesson plans & objectives.
I gathered my ideas and then ha a talk with Kate about
what I'd like to do.

As I would like to become an architect, I am looking at
architecture for my project. I am looking at
"architecture & light".
From my Photography project I did last term I am taking
the idea I had, "Darkness should not be feared, it should
be overcome". Basically light is there to overcome
darkness, whether metaphorically or physically.
Kate said this could be like using light to create life &
structure

I would like to look at:
- how light enters the building
- how light within the building effects it's surroundings
- buildings designed with lights
The buildings will mostly be made from glass so light can
penetrate the buildings and the surroundings.
I will mainly be looking at how the building would look at
night, but I could also consider to look at how the building
looks in the day. I could look at reflection and mirror glass.
Kate said I could also look at refraction and the effects on
light once it enters glass.

As global warming is a big issue, I must look at sustainability
and how it will effect my designs. Example, the use of light
and how energy efficient they can be. Also the use of renewable
energy e.g. solar engergy, and also using insulation, etc.

I have been researching architecture (buidlings) which use the
effects of light, reflection, etc. and have found many.

Kate said for now I should not concentrate on the designing
of the building but experiment with light. So, this is what
I'll be trying to do in my next couple of lessons.

I would also like to include long exposure photography, including
light photography into this project.
