10/05/2011 3D design

During Visual Studies lesson I carried on with making
my model. I drilled the remaining pieces for the brackets
and filed down the rough parts. I finally then bent them
using the metal bender.
I made another set of brackets for the second MDF piece.

I started to paint my model with spray paint. I had to do
this outside, but because it was a little windy my pieces
kept getting a little dirty. I will have to re-paint them once
the spray piant has dried.




I stayed behind after college and made a small model
to test my new design using foam board. It seems that
it will work out well.


I developed my design further in CAD programme SketchUp
so I can visualise what it will look like.

In the lesson I started to produce my final

piece, which is a model of the my idea for

the arena/stadium.

After working out the measurements to

scale, I managed to cut out the main MDF

pieces required to build my model.

I wasn't able to do much more as the pain

in my hand/arm started again.

It wasn't a productive day. This dissappionted

me, as I wanted to get a lot of work done.

I must make sure I documentate my work in

my sketchbook and keep it up-to-date.

I continued with making my final model,

starting with cutting out the aluminium

pieces. Cutting, filing and cleaning the

aluminium pieces took a while to do.

 

While I was making, Kate came and had

a word with me about the way I will stick the

aluminium pieces to the MDF and acrylic.

We came to a conclusion of using pop-rivits.

This will also contribute to the design of the

model. To hold the pieces together I had

to make brakets.

Before I started to carry on with making

model, I had a talk with Matt.

We discussed the design and other

opitions.

I changed my design a little. I edited

the roof to look more eye-catching.

The new roof also gives me the oppertunity

to use an alternative idea I had, where the

roof of the arena/stadium can be removed

for an open stadium.

I now need to draw the new design up on

SketchUp. Any test models need for the new

design will be made in my own time.

I will also try to make a small foamboard

model of the open stadium.

I started making my model.

In the lesson I made models.

I had a discussion with Matt, talking about my

final idea. We discussed how the model could

be made. I was a little worried thinking that it

may be not possible to make the model, but

Matt said that it will be.

I made a small model of my final design with

the material I am going to make the final out

of.

 

During the Easter holidays I must make sure I

catch-up on my work, espeacially my sketchbook.

When we return from the holidays, I will have to

be fully focused on the making of my final design.

If I need to make any extra test pieces I will have

to make them in my own time, using the extra

sessions.

In the morning I picked up the prisim I booked

for today's lesson, from the Physics department.

They also gave me a light box to carry out my

experiment.

I set up everything in the photography studio as

it's pretty dark in there.

I started with experiementing with the effects of

coloured glass/acrylic and refracting light. 

Refracting the light using a mirror.  

Then I experimented with refracting white light

using a prism.

Using mirrors to re-refract.

After that I experimented with dispersing light into

it's spectral colours.
Refracting the dispered light using a mirror.

I had talk with Kate later on. She and I realised I

need to start doing more work. I've been held

back a little because of personal problems, but

I'm going to catch up this week, and in the Easter

holidays which start next week.

I developed my final idea further in CAD programme

SketchUp.
The design needs further rendering.

In the lesson I did some sketch book work so

that it is up-to-date. I also worked on my

final design. I need to develop this design

further and also develop it further in CAD

using SketchUp and maybe SolidWorks.

I tried to get a prism from the Physics

department so that I can experiment with the

light disperstion. It seems like I had to book

it in advance, so Matt tried to book it for me,

now I've got it for Monday.

Matt and me discussed for a while if there

could be another possible way I can use the

prism light disperstion.

I now need to start get everything going as

theres only 5-6 weeks left of this project.
