Fine Art 07/10/2010

I didn't go until the 2nd half of the day, but I continued with what I had set out to do from
before.  My theme: You wouldn't have the new technology if you didn't have the old....basically everything is a development. I'm doing about audio mediaCDヘッドフォン

So, today I was making CDs out of cassette tape.

Visual Studies 05/10/2010

In today's lesson we looked at adding colour to our drawings.
The objects we had to draw today were a wine glass, cakes, etc.  These were kind of hard to draw.  Then using soft pastels we added colour.

The piece is still incomplete...will work into it further.

Conextual Studies 05/10/2010

In today's lesson we looked at what type of books we could use for researching on an artist and his art work.

Together as a class we analysed 'The Ghent Altarpiece' c1432
The production of this piece began with Hubert Van Eyke and completed by his brother Jan Van Eyke.

Graham showed us how to analyse a piece of artwork.  This is for the essay we will have to produce.

CAD/ICT 05/10/2010

In today's lesson with Jackie (lecturer), we didn't do much apart from getting to know how to use Photoshop.  These were the basics so I knew most of them. ニコニコ

I thought I should do something connected to my work from one of my other subjects...so I chose to link my work to what I'm doing in Digital Apps.

I created another moodboard like image for my Digital Apps sketch book...

I used some of my favourite Visual Kei artists...ニコニコ Not all of them could fit on, so some are missing しょぼん
lol.  I really like how it's turned out. ニコニコラブラブ

And, I also tried to create another example for the logo for my zine.

3D Design 04/10/2010

Had a great day in 3D ニコニコ.  Produced some more final test pieces and ideas for the final.

Well, I'm looking at negative/positive space, so I've decided to look at the structure of a building.  Using the idea of a structure I made a small test piece using some aluminium wire, which is easy to bend.  I used masking tape to join the pieces together.

Used the katakana symbol ワ (wa)ニコニコ In the end, it looked like this...not bad...グッド!

Next I would like to try making the structure wider, more like a building...Also, the models need to start looking like architecture models.  I was also thinking of using the spot welder instead of masking tape to join the pieces...

This is the design for the next model piece/ it's maybe my final... When I came up with this design I was actually looking/thinking about the word/name 上城 (Kamijou).  I then chose to use 上 (Kami) to create my design.

At the moment I am cutting up copper wire to create the different pieces to join together with the spot welder.  Let's see how it goes....Fringers crossed..ニコニコ

Fine Art 30/09/2010

Had a great day in Fine Art yesterday.
I'm looking at technology...old and new...mainly at music products such as records, cassettes, CDs, etc. I realised what topic I will be doing...."if it wasn't for the old technology, you wouldn't have the new"....basically everything has developed over the years. So my work yesterday was related to this.
I've decided my final will be a sculptor.

I'm also going to add a musical piece to my work. This I will create my self using my keyboard, electric guitar and maybe music making software...but I'd rather it being purely real instruments.

In my previous Fine Art lesson, Pak (lecturer) told me to scratch into a cassette and see how the sound would change when playing it, when I tried this, even if I did it lightly the cassette tape would just rip. After a little discussion with Pak yesterday, I was told me I could try adding small drops of citric acid to the tape, then once dry see if the sound has changed.

The tape inside the cassette is made from polyester type plastic film with a magnetic coatin made from Ferric Oxide and Cobalt (mixed in varying ratios), so adding acid to it may change it in some way or the other....

Digital Apps 29/09/10

Had a good day on Wednesday...Learnt some Photoshop techniques that I wasn't really familiar with before as I didn't really have the need for them.  Plus, I'm getting used to using a Mac now. =)
Also designed my logo for my zine.

Need to do some more work....drawings, etc related to the topic of my zine and the mood board I created.  I'm looking at Visual Kei and expression...

By the way, if you're not familiar with Visual Kei, it's kind of like a music genre in Japan...Visual Kei artist express themselves not only with music and lyrics but also visually, with outfits, performances, etc.
